Five Easy Ways to Protect Your Skin During the Summertime

The summer season will be here in just a few short months. The warmer weather will allow us to be outside a lot more and to participate in some great activities. Although hanging out in the sun all day is very enjoyable, it is not always healthy. If you expose your skin to too much sunlight, you could be at risk of developing skin cancer later on. That is why you have to protect your skin from these harmful ultraviolet rays. Here are some ways to protect your skin during the summer season.

Wear Sunscreen

One of the most obvious ways to protect your skin from the sun is to always wear sunscreen. You should always apply sunscreen all over your body before you go outside. Sunscreen will block out a lot of the ultraviolet rays. If you know you will be outside for a long period of time, it is a good idea to bring the sunscreen with you so that you can reapply it every couple of hours. If you go swimming in the pool or ocean, you should reapply your sunscreen after you get out.

Put on Sunglasses

Your skin is not the only thing that needs protection from the sun; it is also important to protect your eyes. If you expose your eyes to too much sun, you are at risk of developing cataracts later on. Make sure to put sunglasses on before you go out in the sun. Not wearing sunglasses in the sun can also make it very difficult to see.

Limit Sun Exposure in the Afternoon

The sun’s rays are strongest between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., so you should limit your sun exposure then. If you are out in the sun in the afternoon, you are more likely to get sunburned. If you have to be out in the sun during that time, at least try to get some shade. If you are in the shade, you are much less likely to get a sunburn.

Add a Sun Room to Your House

Another thing you can do is add a sun room to your home. A sun room will allow you to enjoy the outdoors without being exposed to too much sunlight. On a nice day, you can just sit in your sun room and enjoy the sunshine. A sun room is also free of dirt and other debris, so you do not have to worry about getting dirty. An existing room can be converted into a sun room by a construction company, although this process may be expensive.

Install Sun Shades or Patio Covers

Sun shades are an easy and affordable way to create shade for your backyard or patio. There are many different types of sun shades, some automated and some stationary. Which one you prefer will depend on your taste and budget, but installing sun shades will be cheaper than contracting a construction company to build you a sun room. Another option is to build a patio cover, but this proves to be an expensive option as well (yet is very effective and attractive.)

As you can see, it is very possible to protect your skin from the sun while still enjoying the warm weather. If you follow these very helpful tips, your skin will stay nice and healthy this summer. If you notice any changes in your skin or moles, you should definitely make an appointment with a dermatologist very soon.
